Welcome to House of Thembiso

“House of Thembiso (Promise in Xhosa) is a Place of Safety or Halfway Home for babies up to the age of 24 months. Abandoned babies are the most vulnerable in our society and House of Thembiso’s goal is not just for them to survive, but to thrive and grow into valuable members of society. The babies are cared for here until they are placed with suitable adoptive or foster parents.”

Safe Haven for Abandoned Infants

House of Thembiso opened its doors in February 2007 to safe infants from suffering as a result of being abandoned. In our society there is a need to provide safety and love to these most vulnerable little ones. At House of Thembiso we give these babies the love, care and attention they need, not just to survive, but to flourish as Thembiso in Xhosa means promise.
Self-sustainable project run under the AFM Welfare (Registered NPO in South Africa) and registered with the Department of Social Development (DSD) as a Child and Youth Care Centre (C&YCC) to care for up to 10 babies at any given time.
